Bob Carlson "His Steady Hand Helped Shape the Future"
Bob Carlson brought his love of skiing to Washington State in 1972, when he joined the Western Washington Fair Association ('The Puyallup') to lead in its renaissance. When not creating new Fair attractions, Bob invested his spare time skiing --- organizing youth ski buses and the Pierce County Herald Ski School at Crystal. Bob got hooked on ski racing in the late seventies when his team won the Rainier Bank Cup ski race at Crystal, followed by participation in NASTAR competitions, and organization of the Renton Subaru Team Race Series at Crystal. Bob was asked to serve on the Crystal Board's '25th Anniversary ad committee', helping to make it a huge success; and received an
invitation to join the Crystal Mountain Board of Directors. Bob served on every board committee, was elected Vice Chairman and served as Chairman. Bob was an active Board Chair supporting Tom Leonard and his team to install the first detachable quad, bully groomers with cable winches for our steep terrain, the state's 'highest restaurant', the 'magic carpet' and widening of Hwy 410. He was instrumental in the year-long negotiations that transferred ownership to BOYNE USA, and assured our ski privileges indefinitely by creating the Crystal Mountain Founders Club. During his tenure he brought the Jimmie Heuga Express to Crystal Mountain, and served as a founding member of the SkiForAll Foundation. |
