Tom Leonard "A Hands On Leader and Visionary"
Tom Leonard was named President of Crystal Mountain Resort in 1984, following ten years at Vail and the development of Beaver Creek Ski Area in Colorado. He was instrumental in the sale of the area to Boyne USA in 1997, and helped establish the ground rules for the lift privilege we value as members of the Crystal Mountain Founders Club. These were difficult years at Crystal during
Tom's tenure, with unpredictable snow levels, regular negotiation sessions with bankers, employee recruitment and facilities issues. Tom is a life long skier and ski instructor who was well known for his dedication to the area, and to safe and responsible ski/boarding at all times. His prowess at the negotiating table established a land trade between Mt. Rainier National Park and the Forest Service that resulted in
the grading of the back traverses. Tom brought Crystal detachable lifts, winch grooming, and snowmaking among many other area enhancements. Tom is a respected member of the ski community having served as past-president of the Pacific Northwest Ski Areas Association and board member of the National Ski Areas Association. Tom's daughter, Amy, and son, Rob, grew up at Crystal from beginners to CMAC racers. Amy has
coached CMAC kids for the past ten years. |
