Jack Lewis "Ski Patrol Innovator and Life Saver" Enumclaw native and well-known Crystal Mountain fixture, Jack Lewis, has been maintaining equipment, saving lives and skiing at the area for nearly
40 years. He retired in 1998, at age 80, from active participation at the area; yet his energy and innovation left a lasting impression on the Crystal Mountain Ski Patrol. Jack joined the area in 1964 as a seasonal employee charged with keeping lifts operating and the lodge functional. Over the years, he subsequently grew into the role of
"Capt. Jack", "the old man on the mountain" and many other well earned labels. His 20 seasons of service to the Crystal Volunteer and Pro Patrol earned him special recognition for innovation and for saving a life on two occasions. His patrol work resulted in ways to improve safety and service to injured skiers. In 1996 the National Ski Patrol presented Jack their Distinguished Service Award for 29 years of
outstanding service and dedication. The license plate on his truck reads: "SKI CM". |
