PRESIDENTS MESSAGE:

FOUNDERS CLUB ANNUAL MEETING
HIGHLIGHTS SKI PATROL, CMAC
SCHOLARSHIPS, MASTER PLAN UPDATE

Some 75 members of the Founders Club gathered on 10/17 at the DoubleTree Guest Suites near Southcenter for an evening of information and discussion about club programs and plans for the coming year.  Thanks to Nancy Dees, Larry Hard, Eileen Stevens and Anne Prewitt for their assistance as election monitors; and congratulations to John Demco and Bob Boyce on their re-election to THREE year terms on the board of Trustees.

Trustee Bob Boice introduced Paul Baugher, Director, Crystal Mountain Pro/Volunteer Ski Patrol Director who provided a presentation on the functions of the ski patrol with particular emphasis on how patrollers respond to avalanche situations.  His informative presentation was well received as Trustees work with Paul on how we can support the patrol in the future.   Trustee Bob Boice will continue to be the club's liaison with the Ski Patrol and will explore how the Founders Club might offset patrollers' out-of-pocket expenses for additional training.

It was recognized at the Annual Meeting and subsequent Trustee Meeting that the patrol is dedicated to mountain safety, that they are not highly compensated and that assisting them in educational pursuits may provide the most benefit for the patrol and skiers alike.

Dave Gossard, Don Rees, Harry Beggs

FOUNDERS PROMOTE CRYSTAL

During the past several years, I've had the opportunity to meet some of the remarkable people who banded together some 40 years ago to create Crystal Mountain Ski Area.  Since the creation of the Crystal Mountain Founders Club in 1997, following the sale to Boyne/USA, the Founders Club has focused on promoting the area, administering the lift privilege activation process, AND supporting many worthwhile ski-related charitable organizations.

Your lift activation fees support these activities; with a portion going directly to the Boyne organization to manage 900+ lift privilege "accounts" from the mountain.  We appreciate the cooperation of John Gierke and Debbie Bailey who work hand-in-hand with our club administrator, Anne Prewitt, on keeping founder accounts up to date.  No small task!

We have an energetic board of trustees who welcome your input.  Please review the list in this newsletter and drop any of us a line with your comments on how the club can improve member services or if you have a non-profit ski organization in need of adult lift tickets.  We are also looking for nominees to the Crystal Founders Club Hall of Fame, so send your nominees to Dave Gossard in care of Anne Prewitt.  Save June 13 for the Crystal Hall of Fame reception at Newcastle Golf & Country Club!

See you at the Bullwheel! (new name for Rafters!)  New lodge looks great!

CRYSTAL FOUNDERS CLUB MISSION
SERVES AS VISION FOR FUTURE

IT IS THE MISSION of the Crystal Mountain Founders' Club to be pro-active in the development of activities in support of ski-related non-profit organizations; create special club programs, equipment and group ski trip discounts; and maintain the heritage of Crystal Mountain's original founders. For CMFC members, the organization will administer the annual lift privilege activation process for members holding 20 units or more.
