MOUNTAIN UPDATE

CYMF CRYSTAL BALL PLANNED JUNE 13
AT NEWCASTLE GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB

Stacy Schuster, Crystal Sales and Marketing Director, received a warm welcome at the Annual Meeting followed by her overview of mountain activity during the off season including:  Construction progress on the restaurant at the top of  Forest Queen that will be in  full operation  for the ski  year 2003/2004;   Extensive grooming and brush clearing that has occurred on several ski runs;  an overview of extensive remodeling to the day lodge restaurant and the note that the area has assumed responsibility for food services.  She said the interior of the restaurant services area was completely demolished and reconfigured.  Mountain management has also extended an  outdoor patio eating area that faces the mid  Mountain shuttle – expanding its capacity to approximately 200.

Stacy, in her ever-exuberant manner, informed the membership that Skiing Magazine designated Crystal Mountain as one of the 25  best ski  areas in  North America.  The master plan for area improvements has still not been released by the Forest Service.

Trustee and Club Treasurer, Craig Edwards, has confirmed Newcastle Golf Club and Country Club as site of the 4th Annual Crystal Ball on June 13.   Trustees selected Newcastle as a new venue for our annual event to stimulate more interest.  Trustee and Ancient Skier Liaison, Dave Gossard, is accepting nominations for the Hall of Fame Award(s) for members that have contributed time and resources to benefit Crystal Mountain.

GREAT SKIING FOR A GREAT CAUSE

The 2003 Snow Express for MS will take place at Crystal Mountain on March 1, 2003.  MS Express racing consists of two events: a Vertical Challenge (3 person teams try to accumulate the most combined vertical distance in a 2-3 hour period) and dual giant slalom.  Teams raise a minimum $1,000. in donations to enter, the more money raised the better the chances of winning fund raising prizes.  Proceeds from the event benefit the Heuga Center, a nonprofit research center dedicated to improving the lives of people with MS (multiple sclerosis). Tax-deductible donations may be made in support of the Crystal Mountain Snow Express directly to the Heuga Center 501(c)(3) #74-2337853.
